Chris Redd breaks his silence about the hardest part of his life while on Saturday Night Live.
The SNL alum posted a six-minute video on Instagram, where he said that he was trying to be more vulnerable and open in his life. He began the video by recounting the events that took place while he was working at SNL.
Redd said that during his time there, he struggled with substance abuse, particularly pills, and that he began to sell pills to his cast mates.
“While I was at the show, I had some pill issues… and I was even selling some to some of my cast mates,” Redd said before jokingly adding, “I’m not gonna snitch on y’all motherf*****s.”
He also revealed that some of his colleagues talked about him while he was going through his issues instead of assisting him with finding help.
Chris Redd Describes His Experiences
As the video continued, Redd said that he had experienced isolation at work and panic attacks. “It’s crazy how somebody would watch you destroy yourself,” he said.
However, during his downward spiral, the comedian said that Christina Evangeline, Kenan Thompson’s then-wife, was the only person to check on him. He said that they began to grow closer through honesty and emotional support.
Redd and Evangeline would later be involved in a romantic relationship shortly after she separated from Thompson. “It wasn’t a plan,” Redd explained. He added that he knew the situation was complicated and felt conflicted since he had a good relationship with Thompson.
Kenan Thompson filed for divorce from Christina Evangeline in 2022 after being married for over a decade. Chris Redd joined the cast of SNL in 2017 and stayed with the show for five seasons. He left in 2022 but has since appeared in various projects, including Candy Cane Lane and Power Book III: Raising Kanan.
Chris Redd is currently working on an upcoming stand-up run, where he said that it won’t dwell on past experiences.
