Ricky Hatton, Boxing Legend, Found Dead At 46

Boxing legend Ricky Hatton was found dead. His death was confirmed by the World Boxing Association.

The British Boxer, whose nickname was “the Hitman,” won a number of titles throughout his 15-year career including the WBA, IBO, and IBF light-welterweight titles. He also held the WBA welterweight world championship.

Hatton retired from boxing in 2012, however he was set to make a comeback for an event in Dubai later this year.

The WBA released a statement about Hatton and said, “A true champion, an indomitable spirit, and a legend of the sport. Your legacy will live on in every fight and in the hearts of boxing fans around the world.”

According to the Greater Manchester Police, Hatton’s body was found at an address in Hyde, a northern English city, on Sunday morning.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious,” a spokesperson for the police said in a statement.

In the past, the legend has been candid about his struggles with drugs, drinking, and depression and had expressed that he had tried to take his own life several times before.

In a 2016 interview with BBC radio, he said, “I was coming off the rails with my drinking and that led to drugs. It was like a runaway train.”

“Today we lost not only one of Britain’s greatest boxers, but a friend, a mentor, a warrior, Ricky Hatton,” fellow British boxer Amir Khan said on X. “Ricky, thank you for everything. For your fights, your moments of glory, your grit. Thank you for pushing us, showing us what’s possible… you’ll always have your place in the ring of our memories.”

Ricky Hatton was 46 years old. Please keep his family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
