Leslie Jones shares her thoughts on marriage and it is making headlines.
The actress and comedian revealed she believes that marriage is “legalized slavery” during an interview with Ziwe. She also rejected the idea of becoming a “tradwife.” When asked if she would ever embrace the traditional style or idea of marriage, Jones said, “Absolutely not.”
She continued, “Because that’s not who the f**k I am. And my daddy didn’t raise me like that.” Jones went on to explain that her father never raised her to be defined by a relationship. “My dad used to literally say that to me. I didn’t raise you to be somebody’s wife.”
The question was brought up as “tradwife” continues to trend on TikTok and Instagram. The trend began in 2020 with influencers like Nara Smith and Ballerina Farm showing off the aesthetic of fulfilling their “wifely duties” as their husband are the breadwinners for the household.
Although many people on social media are loving this trend, Jones sees it completely differently. “Most of the people that I know that’s gotten married are divorced now,” she said while sharing her feelings about marriage. “I think marriage is legalized slavery.”
Once pushed to explain more about her views on women giving up their independence. “Especially if he’s expecting you to be a trad wife, it might as well pull out a whip and a chain.”
She added that she doesn’t believe that marriage benefits women. “I don’t think it’s beneficial for a woman at all. Don’t get married.”
