Justin Timberlake is finally breaking his silence on the 2004 Super Bowl incident with Janet Jackson.
The four-part docuseries will premiere on Apple TV next month. Reports state that the docuseries will be a ‘tell-all” and said that Jackson will also discussed the “wardrobe malfunction.” The infamous incident took place during the Super Bowl halftime show.
Reps for Jackson, Timberlake, and Apple did not immediately give a response or comment.
The pair’s Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show was one of the most controversial performances in history. Janet Jackson was the headliner in 2004. During her performance, the “If” singer was joined by TImberlake to perform his hit “Rock Your Body.” However, things went wrong when the lyric, “Gonna have you naked by the end of this song,” and the singer grabbing Jackson’s costumes and exposing her right breast.
Soon after the incident, the network and Timberlake apologized, and the singer called it a “wardrobe malfunction,” and distanced himself from it.
Jackson received heavy backlash from the public. Her career would eventually recover, but she has not been back to another Super Bowl Halftime show. Timberlake was the headliner in 2017 as a solo act.
In 2021, the documentary “Framing Britney Spears,” was released. Timberlake issued an apology to both Spears and Jackson after the past resurfaced.
“I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed,” he said. “The industry is flawed. It sets men, especially white men, up for success. It’s designed this way. As a man in a privileged position, I have to be vocal about this. Because of my ignorance, I didn’t recognize it for all that it was while it was happening in my own life but I do not want to ever benefit from others being pulled down again.”
