Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, a beloved eatery in the Gowanus area of Brooklyn, is getting ready to shut its doors for good.
The shocking announcement was made on the restaurant’s social media pages. “Brooklyn… thank you,” the caption read. “Come see us before we close and keep the Dino spirit going up in Harlem.”
According to the post, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que has been part of the Gowanus community for 15 years and will close because its lease is ending. The post also revealed that the restaurant will be torn down and turned into apartment complexes.
Mike Nugent, the CEO of Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, said in a statement, “It has been an absolute honor to be welcomed into the Brooklyn community for 15 years. We’ve had a front-row seat to an incredible neighborhood, and we’re proud of the team who showed up every day to deliver great barbecue and even better hospitality. Most of all, we’re thankful for the guests who kept coming back hungry.”
The statement continued, “While it’s not easy to say goodbye, the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que story is far from over. Guests are invited to come by, grab one more rack (or two), and help send off the Brooklyn location in true Dinosaur fashion.”
When asked if there was a way for the location to be saved, Nugent told us, “The decision to close the Brooklyn location is final. However, we are always looking for opportunities for the brand. We encourage fans to visit our Harlem location or our other four locations in upstate NY for our slow-smoked, award-winning BBQ!”
There is no definite close date; however, there is still time to go and make memories before the doors close forever.
