Jekalyn Carr releases her sixth studio album Jekalyn X The Legends and it does not disappoint.

The Grammy award-winning singer enlisted some Gospel greats to be on her album. Some of them include Yolanda Adams, Dorinda Clark Cole, BeBe Winans, and more.

During an intimate listening party for the album, Carr talked about the process of creating this particular album. “I want to get all of them [the legends] on this one album,” she said. “I sought God on who I should use for this first one, and every single person that I reached out to they were just excited to be a part.” She went on to reveal that she is already working on a part 2 to the Legends album.

Carr also spoke on the story she wanted to tell with this album. She said, “I think it’s important that we continue to let the legends know that we need them. There is no such thing as ‘you know their music did work.’”

She added, “Their music is still working. There are some people that I can’t reach, but Ms. Dottie Peoples can reach. We need every one of them because they are huge staples and not just in gospel, but in music in general. The overall message with this album is that it’s even bigger than just the title; it’s about breakthrough, deliverance, and happiness.”

The “You Carried Me” singer wants listeners to experience something special when they hear these legends in her songs.

After listening to snippets of each song on the album, Carr decided to surprise guests with an impromptu performance of her song “History (Breakthrough) featuring Shirley Caesar, Harvey Watkins Jr. & Karen Clark Sheard.” She also sat down for a special interview. You can watch both below.
