This may be the most ridiculous reason for Amanda Gorman to be under attack by PETA.
According to TheRoot.com, the National Youth Poet Laureate is PETA’s newest target for drinking milk. Gorman recently was part of an advertisement for the first-ever Woman’s Marathon, a marathon by and for women. Gorman was speaking about the event and said, “We know that to be a woman means to be everything for everyone all at once.” She continued, “But when we run, that’s for us.”
However, PETA’s issues with Gorman come from MilkPEP being one of the partners for the race. MilkPEP is an organization that promotes the consumption of cow’s milk. PETA’s Vice President of Communications said in a letter, “I’m writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals- PETA entities have more than 9 million members and supporters globally— regarding your puzzling support of the Every Woman’s Marathon.”
The letter continued, “I am a distance runner who competes in several marathons and 50ks a year, and I would no more drink cow’s mile at the end of a race than I would smoke a cigarette.” The letter then listed how the dairy industry is harmful to animals and stated that “the metaphorical rape of the environment and the actual rape of cows.”
They also blamed the dairy industry for being racist by saying that they continue to market to Latin and African people regardless of most of their population being lactose intolerant. Amanda Gorman has yet to respond to PETA’s attack on her.
