The week has started off great for New Edition. They received one of the most prestigious awards to ever be bestowed upon them. The R&B Group finally received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and just before the premiere of their three-night biopic airing on BET on January 24th, 2017 at 9 pm.New Edition got their start in Boston, and had quite a few chart-topping hits such as “Candy Girl”, “Cool it Now”, “Mr. Telephone Man”, If It Isn’t Love”, “Count me Out”, “Can You Stand The Rain”, and list goes on and on. This group has been in the music business for more than three decades and has had a successful career together and as solo acts, winning multiple awards, and selling multi-platinum albums.As soon as the news broke about this award fans took to social media to express their excitement and some had the chance of witnessing Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph and Johnny finally cemented their legacy by receiving this award. Congratulations!
Chuck Berry Announces Comeback Album at Age 90.
Chuck Berry, the original King of Rock and Roll, has paved the way for many Rock and Roll Hall of famers during his career. Now at the age of 90, the Rock and Roll Hall of famer himself, has announced that he will be releasing his first album in 38 years in 2017 this past Tuesday on his birthday. The album, Chuck, will be compiled of all new songs. For Berry, this album is a special one.Not only will it have all new songs, it features his son Charles Berry Jr playing guitar and daughter Ingrid Berry playing the harmonica and musicians who have played with him Fourth years. This album is also a dedication to his wife of 68 years, Toddy (as he calls her). As stated on his website, Berry speaks on why he decided to release this album in 2017, “My darling, I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes”. 
During the span of his career, Berry has been the epitome of ending racial segregation with his music in the Rock and Roll world, has left a mark in the industry that many have been influenced by over the years. More details on the release of this highly anticipated will come at a later date.
Tupac Nominated to be Inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2017
Tupac Shakur is known to be the one of the greatest and most influential rappers of the all time. Although his career was tragically cut short back in 1996, he left behind a legacy for many to enjoy. In leaving such grand legacy, the artist could be headed into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2017. If Shakur is nominated to be in this class he will be the sixth hip-hop artist to enter and will be along RUN-DMC, The Beastie Boys, Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy and of course N.W.A. To be considered for a nomination slot, the artist would have to met their 25 year mark of their first album or single and for Tupac, 2Pacalypse Now is that album, which will hit that mark next month. This album was the start of the journey that Tupac had embarked on to educate his fans through his music. With songs such as ‘Brenda’s Got A Baby’, ‘Young Black Male’, and ‘Words of Wisdom’, this album has paved the way for rappers of today.
Tupac joins the list of other legends nominated for this class such as Jane’s Addiction, Chaka Khan, Chic, Journey, Pearl Jam and former Poetic Justice Co-Star Janet Jackson. It gets better too! Fans have a choice to vote for up to five artists to be inducted into the class of 2017 during the Rock and Roll hall of fame ceremony. 18 Years Later The World Still Mourns
It has been 18 years since the world said goodbye to the Notorious B.IG. On March 9th, 1997 tragedy struck when the news broke out that The Notorious B.I.G was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. The shooting took place several months after his friend turned rival Tupac Shakur was gunned down in a similar manner in Las Vegas.Christopher Wallace known as The Notorious B.I.G, was rushed to the hospital but later passed away on the operating table. Every year on the 9th of March, fans from all over the world come together and reminisce about the rapper who will forever be immortalized as a rap icon. The Notorious B.I.G will forever be remembered for his raw lyrics and the unparalleled talent that he held. Sam Smith: Legend in the making
In a recent post, I shared a video of Sam Smith’s acoustic performance of “Latch” by Disclosure, and I expressed hiw talented and soulful he is, but that is only scratching the surface when it comes to this artist. Not too long ago, Smith released his first album ” In the Lonely Hour”, and it is been nonstop for him from there. In listening to his album, the melodies, and the lyrics you can here a little bit of Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross , the legends or blues and soul.Sam Smith is a rare individual, he embodies everything that the artists before him worked years to get noticed for. In listening to every song on this album, I feel like he is speaking exactly how I feel, whether it’s going through a breakup and knowing your going to be okay, like in his song “Restart”, or knowing that the person you love, doesn’t love you the same or is loving someone else, as he sings in ” I’m not the only one”. But the song that speaks to me the most is his first single “Stay with me” which explains how you can be in a relationship with someone, but you know that it’s not going to work but you still want that sense of comfort from that person. The key thing about this album is that anybody who listens to it can definitely relate to it. Sam Smith is a soulful legend in the making and I hope to hear more greatness from him in the future.
