    Have you ever heard of the saying,”it’s better to give than to receive?”, well for Kishawna Faulkner, this more than a saying to her, it’s her mantra.Kishawna Faulkner, a Brooklyn native, states that she loves helping others in a positive way. Wanting to more than she does, she decided to brand herself as an entrepreneur and in doing so, she came up with the company, R.O.A.D.S.R.O.A.D.S, which stands for Reaching Our Aspirations Dreams and Success, is an organization that plans events for up and coming entrepreneurs.Since the start of this company in March 2018, Faulkner has put together pop-up shops, bar-be-ques, and baby showers. Her biggest event to date, took place this past Saturday, August 18th, 2018 in Bushwick at 100 Bogart Street. She put together a fashion show that featured only up and coming fashion designers.The show had a total of five designers, including Anisupe Clothing, RSC, and Heart of a Lion. It also showcased models from kids to teenagers to adults.The show also included a phenomenal dance break by the dance duo Olasheni Emonni Odey.There was also a musical performance by up and coming artist Yung Quinc.For many of the designers, this was their first fashion show and there was a mix of emotions running through their minds from beginning to end.”It was very eventful. At first, it was nervewracking, not knowing what to expect,” said Korey Browne, owner of Heart of A Lion. He continued ” I think after going through it the first time, I think that the other venues are just going to be better and better. Seeing the reception that they were so interested and wanting to know more about the line, it encouraged me to keep pushing forward.””I feel like it was a huge success. I plan on doing a lot more fashion shows, and pop-up shops and other events down the line because today was a success and it shows what I can do with my clothing brand”, said Robert Henry, founder, and president of Anisupe Clothing.Faulkner also shared how she felt about the show. “I feel like I can breathe. I can smile now, I can laugh with everyone, I’m relaxed everything went well. All of the stress, frustrations, and tears were all worth it”. She continued, “I learned that you always have to have a back up for your back up”.

    Bob Marley is undeniably one of the best, if not the best, Reggae artists to have ever live. During his time, Marley always spread the word of positivity, love, and happiness. Known for many of his songs such as “Three Little Birds”, “Get Up, Stand Up”, and “One Love”, Bob Marley will forever be the epitome of ‘Good Vibes’ and to honor that, ice cream company, Ben and Jerry’s has dedicated an ice cream flavor to him. The new flavor, respectfully named, “One Love”, is made up of Banana Ice cream with caramel and Graham cracker swirl and fudge peace signs. As amazing as that sounds, its gets better. When you purchase this particular ice cream flavor proceeds from the sales will go to the One Love Youth Camp in Jamaica, a youth empowerment group focused on music and culture for the children.     There’s a sense of joy of being able to discover new things when it comes to music and everything that falls under that umbrella. A few weeks ago, a new discovery came to me at an all women showcase and her name is Mercy. For many of you who don’t know who Mercy is, Mercy is a phenomenal dancer who uses different styles of dance to express herself and share her story with others. Mercy has been dancing for years but after an unforseen incident that took place in her life, the dancer decided to channel that into her art. In 2015, Mercy fell victim to domestic violence where she suffered from a concussion given to her by her partner/dance instructor during a physical altercation. Although was she beaten, she was not broken. Mercy decided to turn her tradegy into triumph as she became a voice for other women who are victims of domestic violence. Mercy is now a woman’s advocate for domestic violence and she also created two very important parts of her company that other women can benefit from.The first part is a One Woman Show entitled The Rebirth of  Mercy, where she displays her creativity as a freestyle dancer and transforms it into an art form. The second part The Rebirth of A Woman, is a monthly women empowerment circle that focuses on topics that will help women discover a better version of themselves as well as helping them stay true to themselves. Mercy has also launched a bi- weekly women empowerment summer intensive segment on WMVR Radio, also entitled The Rebirth of A Woman. The first segment took place on May 10th,2017. When Mercy isn’t performing, she is visiting different schools within the Bronx area, speaking to the kids about ways that they can overcome their obstacles within the arts. Mercy as a dancer, performer, and a woman is an inspiration to many girls and women. She is making her mark in a male-dominated world of dance and is using her trials and tribulations as way to rise above everything she has endured in her life.
