The week has started off great for New Edition. They received one of the most prestigious awards to ever be bestowed upon them. The R&B Group finally received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and just before the premiere of their three-night biopic airing on BET on January 24th, 2017 at 9 pm.New Edition got their start in Boston, and had quite a few chart-topping hits such as “Candy Girl”, “Cool it Now”, “Mr. Telephone Man”, If It Isn’t Love”, “Count me Out”, “Can You Stand The Rain”, and list goes on and on. This group has been in the music business for more than three decades and has had a successful career together and as solo acts, winning multiple awards, and selling multi-platinum albums.As soon as the news broke about this award fans took to social media to express their excitement and some had the chance of witnessing Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph and Johnny finally cemented their legacy by receiving this award. Sam Smith releases “Lay me Down” video, with a side of controversy.
Sam Smith has released the video to his third single “Lay Me Down”, off of his number 1 selling debut album In the Lonely Hour and it comes with a bit of controversy. As many may know, this soulful singer has came out to the world that he is a homosexual, and in this video he and his partner are getting married in a church. The Grammy nominated singer has addressed the gay marriage in the church scene in a recent interview with Rolling Stone Magazine.As the video begins, you see Smith at what appears to be a funeral while the viewers are sitting down holding candles. Then the sad funeral turns into a happy wedding between Sam and his partner.Watch the video below:

Sam Smith: Legend in the making
In a recent post, I shared a video of Sam Smith’s acoustic performance of “Latch” by Disclosure, and I expressed hiw talented and soulful he is, but that is only scratching the surface when it comes to this artist. Not too long ago, Smith released his first album ” In the Lonely Hour”, and it is been nonstop for him from there. In listening to his album, the melodies, and the lyrics you can here a little bit of Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross , the legends or blues and soul.Sam Smith is a rare individual, he embodies everything that the artists before him worked years to get noticed for. In listening to every song on this album, I feel like he is speaking exactly how I feel, whether it’s going through a breakup and knowing your going to be okay, like in his song “Restart”, or knowing that the person you love, doesn’t love you the same or is loving someone else, as he sings in ” I’m not the only one”. But the song that speaks to me the most is his first single “Stay with me” which explains how you can be in a relationship with someone, but you know that it’s not going to work but you still want that sense of comfort from that person. The key thing about this album is that anybody who listens to it can definitely relate to it. Sam Smith is a soulful legend in the making and I hope to hear more greatness from him in the future.
