    An Aaliyah Tribute To Be Held In Prospect Park This Weekend

    Brooklyn is gearing up to show some love to one of its own, the late Aaliyah.

    According to reports, on Saturday, August 8, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! will be celebrating the late singer with her own party; Aaliyah: One in a Million.

    The celebration will take place at the Lena Horne Bandshell in Prospect Park and it is completely free! This event will have DJs, live music, fashion, films, and personal stories paying tribute to the Brooklyn-born singer on the 25th anniversary of her passing.

    The event is set to start at 3 pm; although RSVPs are not required they are encouraged. This celebration will be hosted by journalist, Brittany Spanos (Rolling Stone and Variety). It will also have fellow Brooklynite Taja Cheek aka L’Rain serve as the music director while DJs Nyla Simone, Honey Bun, and albertoreyes will keep the Aaliyah hits in heavy rotation.

    Designer Karl Kani, whose clothes became a part of Aaliyah’s signature will host a pop-up boutique as well as raffle of three motorcycle jackets.

    Aaliyah was on January 16, 1979 in Brooklyn, before moving to Detroit as a child. On August 25, 2001, she passed away in a tragic plane crash. Although, she is gone, her legacy and influence continues to live on.

    Sammie Breaks His Silence After Being Arrested On Battery And Cruelty To Children Charges

    Sammie finally speaks out after he was arrested in Georgia.

    According to reports, the “I Like It” singer was arrested and charged with cruelty to children and battery. He was booked on Oct. 19 in the Henry County area.

    The cruelty to children charge is an instance where a violent act was displayed and witnessed by a child, and not acted out on a child. The details on the allegations have not been made public.

    Sammie was later released on bond and has given fans an update on the situation via social media. The singer jumped in the comments under The Shaderoom’s Instagram post saying that the news coverage was “clickbait.”

    “TSR, y’all know better,” he wrote. “Should’ve hit me and my team first for the facts opposed for clickbait, y’all know how I rock. Y’all brought me back career-wise, but I see y’all pushing the agenda of negativity, and that’s fine. God bless y’all. I pray the apologies are as loud as the lies and offenses.”

    He also addressed the situation via his Instagram Story. “I’mma let God have his say and the courts have their say. The truth shall set you free.”

    Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, posted a video on Instagram of him giving Harrell all the praise for believing in him at a young age. Diddy wrote under the touching video, “I honestly still can’t believe it. I’ve got to give myself the reality of this in doses. Because I can’t even handle this. I hope to God that you are all blessed to have someone in your life that loves you and believes in you like this man believed in me.… I’m going to miss him so much. I can’t even imagine life without Dre.”

    Andre Harrell passed away at the age of 59 from heart failure. Although, he is gone, he will never be forgotten. His legacy will forever live on through music and through the artists he introduced fans such as Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Heavy D. and The Boyz and so much more.
