There’s no secret that this country is trying to place a serious ban on illegal immigrants, thanks to the new administration in charge. With all of the tension in the air, there is one person who is using her talent to help change the outlook of immigrants within the United States. Former Fifth Harmony singer, Camilla Cabello has decided to make her voice heard about immigration issues by writing a love song about immigrants. This song will not only chronicle the life of an immigrant’s journey to United States but it will explain her and her family’s own journey. In a recent interview with Glamour magazine, Cabello and her mother Sinuhe, talked about their journey from leaving their country of Cuba, flying to Mexico and eventually settling in Miami when Cabello was six years old. It was because of this journey, that Cabello started a new journey of her own, in beginning to write an immigration love song.

I want to make a love song for immigrants. That word, immigrant, has such a negative connotation— I can just imagine all the little girls who have dreams of coming here and feel unwanted. It inspires me in my music to do my best to give [them] the light that I have.”

“I want to be what people think of when they think of America — a person who, no matter what her first language was or what her religion is, can see her dreams come to life if she works hard enough.
