Tom Cruise Walks Away With An Oscar At The 2025 Governors Awards

Tom Cruise can finally add Oscar winner to his already long resumé.

The four-time nominee finally received his award at the 2025 Governors Awards on Sunday, November 16. During his acceptance speech, Cruise talked about his lifelong dedication to this form of art. “Making films is not what I do, it’s who I am,” he said.

Cruise wasn’t the only one to receive honorary Oscars for the night. Dancer, choreographer, and actress Debbie Allen and production manager, Wynn Thomas, also received their Golden Statues. Dolly Parton was awarded the Dean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

The star-studded annual event was held at Hollywood’s Ray Dolby ballroom, and some familiar faces, including Teyana Taylor, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Michael B. Jordan, among others who mingled with each other until it was time to accept awards.

The Mission Impossible star, who is set to star in director Alejandro Iñárritu’s next film, gave honor to the other honorees instead of speaking about himself. He also spoke on the importance of watching quality movies in theaters.

“No matter where we come from in that theater, we laugh, we feel together, we hope together. That is why it matters to me,” as Vanity Fair reports.

Tom Cruise has been previously nominated for his roles in Jerry Maguire, Magnolia, and Born on the Fourth of July. He was also nominated as a producer on Top Gun: Maverick.

He went on to emphasize that his lifetime achievement award was not the end of his career. “I want you to know that I will always do everything I can to support and champion new voices, to protect what makes cinema powerful – and hopefully to do it without too many more broken bones,” he said.

Congratulations to Tom Cruise and the other Honorary Oscar Winners.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Could Be Considered For An Oscar

From Wrestling legend to Oscar nominee? Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is reportedly a serious contender for an Oscar.

The Oscar talk comes after Johnson received a 15-minute standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival for his role in the movie, “The Smashing Machine.”

His performance sparked the conversation of the wrestler-turned-actor potentially being considered for an Oscar. In the film, Johnson plays the role of Mark Kerr, a former amateur wrestler and MMA fighter, which is a career pivot from the roles he normally plays.

Johnson’s performance is being compared to Mickey Rourke’s portrayal of Darren Aronofsky in the 2008 film “The Wrestler.” As Variety reports, “both films center on fighters grappling with physical deterioration and personal demons.”

To get ready for the film, Johnson worked with two-time Oscar winner Kazu Hiro (“Darkest Hour” and Bombshell”). Reports added that “Johnson undergoes a physical transformation that erases any thought of a WWE star in costume.”

In the film, Johnson is joined by Emily Blunt, who plays the role of Kerr’s girlfriend, Dawn Staples, who is battling her own addiction while trying to support Kerr on his journey. Johnson spoke about his co-star and said, “She’s one of my greatest inspirations.” This isn’t the first time that the two of them worked together. They previously starred in Disney’s “Jungle Cruise.”

If he is considered for an Oscar, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may be nominated in the Best Actor category. “The Smashing Machine” premieres in theaters on Oct. 3.
