Yesterday, Sen. Al Franken came forward to announce his resignation amid sexual harassment allegations. In his speech, the Minnesota senator stated that it was the worst day of his life. Franken also took a jab at both Roy Moore and Donald Trump who have also been accused of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct. Cited in the New York Times, Franken said, “I, of all people, am aware that there is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party.”This announcement comes shortly after the longest-serving African-American Democratic representativeJohn Conyers Jr also resigned amid sexual misconduct allegations. Both Franken and Conyers Jr. were forced to resign by the Democrats and its leaders. Their resignations come during a time where many sexual misconduct allegations have been revealed by accusers from all over including in the music and entertainment industry. With these allegations heavily swirling around on Capitol Hill, what does it mean for them? What are the next steps that members of Congress are going to take and how will they respond to it?
