Amy Cooper will have her day in court.
Cooper, also known as “Central Park Karen” has been charged with falsely reporting an incident to the police after a video went viral of her intentionally calling the police on a Black man who was bird watching.
In the video, captured by the victim, Christian Cooper (no relation) was seen explaining the rules of having a dog in Central Park’s ramble area, when Amy stated that she was going to call the cops and tell them that she was being harassed and threatened by a black man.
The incident took place on May 25th and shortly after going viral, Amy lost her job at Franklin Templeton and her dog.
Cy Vance, Manhattan District Attorney made an announcement about Amy’s charges. “Today our Office initiated a prosecution of Amy Cooper for Falsely Reporting an Incident. At this time I would like to encourage anyone who has been the target of false reporting to contact our Office. We are strongly committed to holding perpetrators of this conduct accountable.”
Amy Cooper will be arraigned in October 14th.
