Platinum selling recording artist Kendrick Lamar can add the title “Generational Icon” to his resume thanks to the California State Senate. Earlier this week, the State Senate recognized Lamar for his charitable, community and artistic efforts and asked him to speak on the Senate floor where he received an oversized framed award. Being that Lamar is from Compton, it was only fitting that he was introduced by fellow Compton native Senator Isadore Hall III. During the Senator’s speech, there were some key points that were recognized like his ten- year rap career, his work with the inner city youth through the supporting music and sports programs and the massive amount of donations Lamar gives to these programs. Even though he is considered one of the biggest names in the Rap game,he has certainly not forgotten when he came from. He always wears the city of Compton on his back and in his heart.
